BİR TÜRK AİLESİ’NİN PENCERESİNDEN “PRİZREN”

Prizren, which was a district center during the Ottoman period, is today the second largest city in Kosovo. Prizren, which experienced its peak of development during the Ottoman period, was a very important commercial and cultural center at that time. Prizren hosts many works from the Ottoman period. After the Ottoman period, Prizren went through difficult times due to power struggles. During the former Yugoslavia period, it made significant progress in social and economic terms. However, after the “Kosovo War” that occurred between 1998-1999 due to nationalist movements, Prizren came under the administration of the United Nations; with the declaration of Kosovo’s independence in 2008, it has maintained its importance in the historical process and has not ceased to be the “Capital of Culture”. While Albanians are the majority in Prizren, Turks, who are a minority group, are also active in the city’s trade, culture and scientific life. With the oral history study, the social and cultural life of Prizren and the reflections of its dialect structure today were combined with the experiences of the past and conveyed. This study was carried out with an interview conducted in the Prizren home of the Turkish-born Reşat-Servet SALLA couple, who were born in Prizren on 09-10 March 2025.
