MUSTAFA BALEL’İN “PEYGAMBER ÇİÇEĞİ” ROMANINDA KADIN VE KADININ VARLIK ALANI

Although Mustafa Balel, one of the writers of contemporary Turkish literature, has contributed to almost every genre of literature with his stories, novels, travel writing, letters, translation-criticism writings and works for children's literature, it is seen that his works are not emphasised and accordingly not enough academic studies have been carried out. However, Mustafa Balel's works, which have unique fictions and narrative qualities in terms of both structural elements and content, attract attention by pointing to individual and social realities. In this paper, the main element -woman-, which constitutes Mustafa Balel's first novel “Peygamber Çiçeği” in terms of its theme, has been determined as the main point of departure, and it is aimed both to evaluate the aforementioned work and to lead and contribute to the studies to be carried out on the author and his works In his novel “Peygamber Çiçeği”, Mustafa Balel conveys the positioning of women in the social structure through identities such as ‘mother’, ‘wife’ and ‘daughter’, and shows to what extent the phenomenon of gender and social criticism affect the process of women's identity and place through the experiences, observations, feelings, thoughts, dreams and expectations of the young girl in the protagonist position. For this reason, the novel is dominated by the protagonist's efforts to recognise and define/mean herself and other female characters. As a result of this endeavour, the protagonist, the woman, who faces the reality that she does not have an identity both in the family environment and in the environment where she grows up, is dragged into tragic destruction.
