In the article the adjectives are compared which are used in Chingiz Aytmatov's works. In the implementation of this research, the author's works written in Russian and their translations into Uzbek were learnt. It is obvious that the adjectives are one of the most important word groups in both Uzbek and Russian languages, and they play a key role in character expression. In the languages being compared, adjective-lexemes are distinguished by the fact that they perform the task of clarifying, concretizing objects and giving them an emotional colour and these feature makes them an integral part of daily communication process and literary speech. Based on the materials of the Uzbek and Russian languages, through a comparative study of the adjectives used in the works of Chingiz Aytmatov, the similarities between the Uzbek and Russian adjective-lexemes, furthermore, their different and unique characteristics are also shown in the article. In Chingiz Aytmatov’s works, adjective-lexemes are widely used as a means of artistic representation, along with metaphors, euphemisms and others in describing the mental state of characters through the appearance of personality, nature, and the environment. The writer effectively used a number of methods, such as concretization and detailing, giving emotional colours, symbolizing, opposing and contrasting, creating poetic art, and exaggeration in the use of adjectives for artistic and spiritual effect. Uzbek translators skillfully translated these units into our native language while re-creating Aytmatov's works in another language.
