The article deals with the functional potential of deverbatives in English. The article states that deverbatives are lexical units with verb and noun properties. In the article, the semantic issues of taxis are considered, the understanding of the essence of the category as temporality is justified. In the article it is noted that understanding of taxis allows deverbatives to determine the expressive possibilities of temporal relations. The author uses specific examples from the English language in order to visualize the possibilities of expressing the temporal characteristics of adverbs.
