This study aims to comparatively analyze the indicators of gender equality, women's participation in higher education and representation in academia in Azerbaijan and Turkey. This research was carried out using document analysis method within the scope of qualitative research. Data from different sources (such as TUIK, ASIS) and the relevant literature were utilized. According to results, in terms of overall gender equality, Azerbaijan has a higher score than Turkey and ranks higher in the overall ranking. Although it is a positive indicator that women constitute approximately half of the participants in higher education in both Azerbaijan and Turkey, it can be said that there are reflections of gender roles in field-based trends for both countries. In both countries, women's participation rates are high in fields such as education, humanities and social sciences, while women's participation rates are low in fields such as agricultural faculty, technology and technical fields. The participation rates of women in doctoral programs were found to be almost equal to those of men in both countries. When the female academician ratios are analyzed, it is seen that although the ratios seem to be balanced with men in both countries, they change to the detriment of women in the career progression process. The proportion of women in academic management positions such as rector, vice rector and deanship is quite low in both countries. This situation suggests that women academics are stuck at a certain point in the career advancement process and face obstacles in rising to top management positions.
